Water across London is provided by Thames Water.
0800 980 8800 customerhelp.thameswater.co.uk
Your water usage is measured by a meter in your utility cupboard. Thames Water reads this meter remotely, but may occasionally need access to your flat for maintenance.
You cannot change your water supplier.
The water meter and main stop valve are located in the service cupboard in your home. The main stop valve turns off all water to your apartment.
There are also local isolation valves (blue for cold water, red for hot):
- For sinks: behind the access panel below the sink
- For the bath: behind the side panel
- For the washer dryer: at the back of the appliance (you'll need to move it out to reach the isolation valve)
Managing leaks and how to avoid them
Report dripping taps to the GetLiving team as soon as possible to avoid wasted water and basin stains.
If you have a leak, find out where it's coming from and how severe it is. Place a container underneath to prevent further water damage. If possible, turn off the relevant isolation valve. If water has entered any electrical equipment, turn off the electricity at the consumer unit. Then contact the Relationship Management Team.
Problems with your hot water
If your hot water isn't working, contact the GetLiving Team.
Leaks from another home
If you spot a leak coming from an unoccupied home, contact the GetLiving Team immediately so they can turn off the water.
Drainage
East Village has a recently installed drainage system. To keep it in good condition, do not flush wet wipes, nappies, or sanitary products down the toilet. These can cause serious blockages that require professional clearing.
We recommend using a drain protector for your shower and bathroom sink to catch hair and soap.
Kitchen sinks
Put all food waste into your bin or food recycling bin. We recommend a sink waste catcher (available from most hardware shops).
Do not pour fat, oil, or large food particles down your sink—this will block the system and can attract rats. Let fat and oil cool, then put them into an empty tin or milk carton and dispose of them in the bin.
Dealing with blockages
If your sink is blocked and full of water, try removing the blockage using sink unblocking products available at hardware shops and supermarkets.
Toilet blockages can often be cleared using a suction cup plunger.
If these methods don't work, contact the Relationship Management Team. Do not attempt to access the waste pipes using rodding access points.
