All East Village homes have excellent insulation and a heat recovery ventilation system, so you generally won't need much extra heating. However, radiators are installed throughout your home, and there's a heated towel rail in the bathroom(s) for colder days.
Heating controls
Each home has a programmable thermostat for heating and hot water. In studios and 1-bed homes, it's on the living room wall. In 2-, 3- and 4-bed homes, it's in the corridor.
You can also control the temperature in each room using the thermostatic radiator valves on each radiator.
Towel rails
The heated towel rails operate when the apartment heating is on.
To use the towel rail at other times, use the override switch. It will turn on the rail for 90 minutes.
Ventilation
The heat recovery ventilation system, installed in the service cupboard, provides fresh air whilst removing moisture and odours. The system recovers heat from the extracted air and reintroduces it into the supply air path.
The system operates at a slow "trickle" rate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - the most efficient way to run it. It automatically boosts when the bathroom light is on to remove moisture from showers and baths. You can also boost it manually using a switch in the corridor. The boost function runs on a timer and switches off automatically after 30 minutes.
Windows
Windows are fitted with a safety catch, allowing them to be opened slightly for ventilation.
To open a window:
- Insert the key and turn clockwise to release the handle lock
- Turn the handle up from 6 o'clock to 12 o'clock
- Tilt the window open by pulling the handle
To close and lock a window:
- Gently push the window back against the frame
- Turn the handle back from 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock
- Insert the key and turn anticlockwise
- Remove the key and check the handle is locked
