You can change electricity supplier after you've moved in.
Your electricity usage is measured using a meter in a cupboard in the common corridor. The meter will be read remotely by your electricity provider, so you shouldn't need to access it. If you need a meter reading, please contact the GetLiving Team.
You can monitor your energy use on the energy display device in your apartment.
The electricity consumer unit is in the utility cupboard by the front door. It contains the main ON/OFF switches and several Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs). These replace traditional fuses and are much easier to reset - you don't need to replace any fuse wire. Each MCB protects a different circuit. Inside the consumer unit, you'll find a reference sheet showing which MCB controls which circuit.
Separate dedicated power supplies are provided to all specialist systems, including:
- Ventilation system
- Heat interface unit
- Washer
- Dryer
- Fixed kitchen appliances (fridge/freezer, dishwasher, oven, cooker hood) — controlled by a 4-module grid switch in an easily accessible kitchen cupboard
- Electric cooker and hob — supplied via a 50amp double pole switch
Separate ON/OFF and isolator switches
If you have a problem with an appliance or equipment, check its individual ON/OFF or isolation switch first. It may have been switched off by mistake.
Kitchen hob and oven
The ON/OFF switch is on the wall above the worktop.
Other systems
Individually labelled isolator switches (e.g. within the utility cupboard):
- Washing machine
- Heating
- Media distribution system equipment
- Towel rail booster
- Ventilation system booster
Resetting after a power cut
If you have a power cut, check the consumer unit to see if any of the MCBs are off. If one is, flick the switch back to the ON position - your power should reset.
If it goes off again, try unplugging the last device you plugged in and turn the MCB back to ON.
If that doesn't work, try unplugging other devices—but you may need to report the fault.
Residual Current Circuit Breakers (RCCB)
The electricity supply is also protected with two RCCBs. These quickly cut off the supply if an 'earth' fault occurs from a lighting or power outlet socket.
The RCCBs should be tested quarterly. To test them, press the black 'test' button.
To reconnect after testing, or if RCCBs have activated, push the black switch next to the test button fully upwards.
Reporting faults
If your electricity has failed and you can't reset it using the MCBs or RCCBs, please contact the Relationship Management Team.
