Have you ever walked past the VeloPark or looked up at the East Village towers and thought, “Wait, I’ve seen that before?”
You probably have.
Thanks to our unique blend of futuristic architecture, vast green spaces, and the iconic Olympic skyline, E20 has become one of the most sought-after filming locations in London. From tear-jerking indie darlings to Marvel blockbusters, here is a look at the productions that have called E20 home.
The Star Attraction: All of Us Strangers (2023)
The Location: Insignia Point, Victory Plaza (East Village)
If you saw the critically acclaimed film All of Us Strangers, you definitely recognized Adam’s (Andrew Scott) apartment building. The exterior shots were filmed right here at Insignia Point.
Director Andrew Haigh specifically chose the tower because he wanted a location that felt “new” and slightly detached from the chaos of central London to reflect the main character's isolation. While the interior of the flat was a set, they digitally projected high-resolution photographs of the actual view from East Village outside the windows to keep it authentic.
Spot it: Next time you walk past Victory Plaza, look up - that’s where Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott’s characters met.
The Comedy Heritage: Twenty Twelve & Twenty Twenty Six
The Location: The Olympic Park & Surrounding Offices
Before E20 was a postcode, it was a construction site - and the set of the BAFTA-winning mockumentary Twenty Twelve. The show, starring Hugh Bonneville and Olivia Colman, perfectly satirized the chaotic organization of the London Olympics.
Coming Soon: The team is returning! The BBC has announced a sequel series, Twenty Twenty Six (set to air in 2026). While the plot moves the action to the World Cup, the show’s DNA is forever linked to the legacy of Stratford and the Olympic Park. Filming took place around the front of Insignia Point earlier this year, turning a slice of E20 into a Miami scene.
The Viral Stunt: Mous Phone Cases
The Location: Victory Park
It isn't just TV dramas; E20 is also a playground for viral marketing. The London-based tech brand Mous is famous for their extreme phone case drop tests.
Blockbusters & Thrillers: Confirmed Sightings
Our neighbourhood often doubles for “The Future” or high-tech corporate headquarters in major productions. The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park confirms that these massive shows filmed right here on our grounds:
- Black Widow (Marvel Studios)
- The Spot: The Lee Valley VeloPark & Parklands.
- The Scene: Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff was filmed near the VeloPark. The venue's sleek, curved wood and metal architecture fits perfectly with the futuristic aesthetic of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- Slow Horses (Apple TV+)
- The Spot: Various locations across the Olympic Park.
- The Scene: While the spies operate out of a grubby office in Slough House, the show uses the clean, glass-heavy lines of our local area to represent the “real” MI5 headquarters (The Park). It provides a sharp visual contrast between the failures and the elite.
- Gangs of London (Sky/AMC)
- The Spot: The Park's waterways and bridges.
- The Scene: This gritty crime drama utilized the stark, modern lines of the Olympic Park to frame the corporate facade of London’s underworld. Location supervisors praised the park for allowing the complicated setups required for a show of this scale.
Filmed on our Doorstep: The Honourable Mentions
Sometimes the “E20 look” extends just across the river. Here are two huge titles that filmed just inches outside our postcode:
- The Gentlemen (Netflix Series)
- The Spot: Pudding Mill Lane / Barber’s Road.
- The Scene: While the lavish estates are in the country, the gritty garage used by the character Mercy (“Mercy's Motor”) was filmed at a warehouse on Barber's Road. It’s technically just on the edge of the E20 border, but we’ll claim it!
- Spider-Man: Far From Home
- The Spot: Millennium Mills (West Silvertown).
- The Reality Check: You might have heard rumours that the climactic drone battle was filmed here. While it takes place in the London Borough of Newham and shares our post-industrial regeneration vibe, it was actually filmed a few miles south at the derelict Millennium Mills in the Royal Docks (E16).
